How to Use a Hoochie Squid Rigs:
We recommend using roughly 10-12′ of an 80 lb. test mono leader attached to a strong snap swivel. Then we use an 80 lb. braided line on the reels. That seems excessive but when the bluefish are hitting these Hoochies, they’re doing it with a lot of force. Your drag should be set loose, then tighten it down slightly once you’ve hooked up.
Troll these rigs anywhere from 3-10 knots. The slower you go and the more line you let out, the lower the rig will sink. We usually put the rig out between 100 to 150′ and run at an average of 7 knots. You can cover a lot of ground at this speed. Once you find fish just keep circling back over them.
In Conclusion:
By following these recommendations, you can enhance your fishing experience and increase your chances of landing prized bluefish with our Hoochie Octopus Squid Rigs.
